The Joke is on Heath Ledger

I'm actually pretty happy with the casting of Heath Ledger as the Joker for the new Batman movie, "The Dark Knight." The Joker is more than just a crazy man with a painted face (a la Cesar Romero's version in the '60s sitcom "Batman"). He's always scariest when he's deep, introspective, and moody. He's flamboyant, to be sure, but anyone can be flamboyant. Flamboyant just makes you pay attention. Once you start paying attention is when you realize that the look in his eyes is what's terrifying. Ledger has enough depth and is clearly an internal actor that will provide the Joker with his real strength, and keep Christian Bale from overwhelming scenes like he did opposite Katie Holmes (watch them closely and you might think the two of them are in different movies).
